Dr. Ashwani Singal is the author of "Diabetes Mellitus Predicts Occurrence of Cirrhosis and Hepatocellular Cancer in Alcoholic Liver and Non-alcoholic Fatty Liver Diseases". His previous study examined the impact of diabetes mellitus (DM) on progression of alcoholic liver disease (ALD) and non-alcoholic fatty liver diseases (NAFLD). Medical charts of 480 patients with ALD or NAFLD (2004–2011) managed at a tertiary center were retrospectively reviewed. DM increased risk for cirrhosis and hepatocellular cancer (HCC) among patients with ALD and NAFLD.
